Neeraj's poems

Light

A sea of people,
Flowing everywhere,
Shopping, eating,
More than they care.

The mood's festive,
Jolly and bright,
So well lit up,
A day in the night.

Oblivious to it all,
Sits a man on the side,
Dressed in rags,
Eyes all white.

Expecting someone,
To notice his plight,
And give him some money,
So he doesn't starve for the night.

A long black night,
The way he's seen life,
Hunger and despair,
Have been rife.

Everyone rushes,
Past the beggar blind,
Except for one,
Who walks as if in a bind.

He walks glumly,
And looks sheepishly at the light,
Wonders why everyone,
And everything's so bright.

His heart feels heavy,
With despair and gloom,
Shattered dreams,
Remnants of a doom.

He notices the beggar,
Sitting in the night,
Praying in the dark,
Oblivious to the light.

His heart fills with envy.
How he would also like,
To make the world dark,
Just like his inside.

A sorry dark sea,
With no moonlight,
Where dreams get broken,
And land's out of sight.

He envies the beggar,
Hates the light,
Keeps walking heavily,
Into the dark night..
